IWO-SE INTERNATIONAL SERVICES LIMITED is an indigenous company incorporated in Nigeria. The company’s aim and objectives is to make man’s environment comfortable especially in the aspects of environmental Waste Management.

Waste Identification and Classification

  • Any unavoidable material resulting from domestics, industrial or any other source for which there is no economic demand by the producer and therefore must be disposed of.
  • An unwanted product which must be managed from “Cradle to grave”;
  • An unwanted material which must be managed as a finished product.

Waste Segregation, Storage and Disposal

Waste segregation shall be established and maintained in line with company procedures on waste management. Skips/waste bins/containers in good condition shall be used for waste collection and plastic bin liners shall be used for easy transfer of wastes. Combustible waste shall be incinerated at the incinerator; the incinerator operator shall comply with conditions stipulated in the operating manual. The non-combustible waste and resultant ash from the incinerator shall be properly stored at the contractor storage site and subsequently taken to an approved dumpsite or recycling plant. Proper documentation shall be made using consignment notes, which contain details of the waste being transported.

Handling and Transportation Logistics

Evacuation of waste from CLIENTS shall be conducted on a regular basis as detailed in the execution plan. Combustible waste will be taking to the incinerator and non-combustible waste to the contractor storage site where it is subsequently stored awaiting transportation logistics out of company to their respective approved dumpsites / recycling plants.

Documentation and Record Keeping

Good documentation and record keeping is important to good waste management. For a company to set achievable reduction targets, waste quantification and tracking must be efficiently carried out. There are two specific ways of reporting on wastes generated; viz; The compilation of Waste Consignment Notes (WCN); and monthly reporting of specified waste streams.

Waste Consignment Notes (WCN)

It is the responsibility of the originator and/or dispatcher signing Waste Consignment Notes (WCN) to ensure that these are accurate and that appropriate dispatching and filling of the notes are carried out. An example of a waste consignment note is presented in Appendix C.

All shipments of waste from company must be accompanied by the correct documentation prior to dispatching waste from the CLIENT, Waste Consignment Notes (WCN) must be completed and a copy is retained by the dispatcher in a designated file. When completing the Waste Consignment Notes (WCN), the originator and /or dispatcher shall state the following details in legible writing:

 

  • Originator and/or dispatchers name, reference indicator and telephone number.
  • Loading point. Date and time
  • Waste types
  • The quantity of waste transferred in tones or Kilograms.

For each batch of waste, the originator and or dispatcher shall prepare and sign the Waste Consignment Notes (WCN); ensuring that carbon paper transfers all information on the four different colour copies correctly. The yellow copy shall be retained and filed in an appropriate location on site. The blue copy shall be sent to the contract holder (company).

The remaining two copies shall be given to the waste carrier who is tasked with the responsibility of getting waste to final dumpsite / recycling plant. He shall ensure that a representative of the recycling plant / dumpsite sign off the consignment notes and return same to company as proof of haven taken waste to final approved destination.
